Professor Sir John Strang provides the overall academic leadership for the Addictions CAG (Clinical Academic Group) within King’s Health Partners, and is the Director of the National Addictions Centre at King’s College London. He has led study of heroin overdose in our experimental setting and has identified distinctive features of opioid overdose. This is directly informing development of wearable sensors with the aim of being able to detect and potentially send alerts to smartphones and emergency services. In addition, his work also explores novel antidote formulations which the general public might carry and administer when such opioid overdose crises are identified.
