Professor Ulrike Schmidt OBE is Professor of Eating Disorders and the Director of the Centre for Research in Eating and Weight Disorders at King’s College London and a Consultant Psychiatrist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. UIrike’s research spans the spectrum of eating disorders and their biopsychosocial underpinnings.

She has pioneered many influential psychological treatment innovations, scalable in the NHS and recommended by NICE. She also led the development of FREED, a multi-award winning early intervention programme, rolled out across England. Additionally she has pioneered novel, highly targeted treatments, such as non-invasive brain stimulation for eating disorders.

She leads EDIFY, a large, cross-disciplinary UKRI-funded research consortium on personalisation of early intervention in eating disorders. Ulrike’s research leadership has been recognised through multiple prestigious awards. She has led/contributed to national/international policy initiatives, improving research, training and clinical practice.
