£1.3M awarded to South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust for cutting-edge research equipment and technology
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) has awarded £1.3 million to South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust to pay for new research equipment and technology. The funding will go towards a new Centre for Advanced Neurotherapeutics, a Digital and Virtual Reality Centre and Hub, and retinography equipment.

New home-administered treatment for binge eating disorder shows promising results
Researchers from the Insitute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London have investigated the feasibility of a new home-administered treatment for binge eating disorder. The new treatment combines a gentle brain stimulation technique called transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) with a training programme that targets unhelpful patterns of attention around food.

The transition from child to adult mental health eating disorders services can be challenging for service users and staff, however it can also offer opportunities to take a fresh approach to someone’s treatment and care. FREED (First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders) has launched online learning resources for professionals to be able to offer improved support during this time.
