Earlier this year South London and Maudsley launched Maudsley Talks, a new series open to everyone that showcases world-leading insight, research, and clinical practice.

The next talk will be given by Dr Tom Ward, who is a Clinical Psychologist Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London and Honorary Consultant Psychologist at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Ward will explore the current status of AVATAR Therapy and the new frontiers ahead.

Taking Back Power: AVATAR Therapy for Distressing Voices in Psychosis

The Talk will provide an overview of AVATAR therapy. It’s a new intervention which uses digital technology to allow people hearing distressing voices in psychosis to create a digital avatar of the voice, and through therapy, increase their power and control over it.

Dr Ward will summarise the research evidence supporting the development of AVATAR therapy and will discuss recent advances in the field and outline future directions, including a forthcoming NHS implementation study.
