Maariya’s story
Maariya Din, Clinical Pharmacist
"As a pharmacist, I want to know which medications kept the patient out of hospital and stable in the community."
I work at Bethlem Royal Hospital and I use LUCI on a daily basis. During ward rounds, I use LUCI to provide a snapshot of the patient’s medication history and service use.
I also use LUCI for medication reviews because it provides a complete list of medications that I can go through systematically. Some of our patients have been with the trust for many years and, without a tool like LUCI, I would sometimes need to manually review 20 years of medication notes. The way we did this before could take days to complete but now can be done within a few hours.
In my experience, LUCI is simpler to use than you’d expect and isn’t something to be overwhelmed by!
Helen’s story
Helen Hopwood, Consultant Psychiatrist
"We now exclusively use LUCI to monitor antipsychotics for people with dementia."
I use LUCI to monitor antipsychotic (AP) medication for people with dementia. I used to manually update this information in a spreadsheet for all patients on APs. Now I use LUCI, which is much more efficient and updates automatically, providing up-to-date information without the extra work.
Because LUCI provides access to your entire caseload, it’s especially useful for ensuring compliance with new medication guidelines.
I think people are sometimes suspicious of technology solutions based on concerns about accuracy but, from my experience, the AP monitoring is pretty accurate.
Carla’s story
Carla Vidale, Community Matron
"LUCI provides the information we need to help patients who may have slipped through the zoning net."
I use LUCI to monitor the six core physical health checks for older adults with serious mental illness (SMI). We found it really helpful for care coordinators, and I think it could make work processes more efficient.
Older adult patients with SMI may struggle to access support and present with greater physical health needs by the time they access mental health services. I hope staff can use LUCI to prevent physical health deterioration and provide timely intervention.
LUCI has been created by clinicians for clinicians. It gives me patient information at a glance, so I don’t have to spend time searching for it. There’s no risk of breaking it, I can only retrieve the information I need. From my experience, it’s straightforward and easy to use.
Christoph’s story
Christoph Mueller, Consultant Psychiatrist
"Instead of spending hours reviewing patient records, I can quickly get the key information I need."
I use LUCI to review psychiatric medications for older adults with complex mental health conditions. When a new patient comes onto the ward, one of the questions is how their medication could be adjusted so that they can live safely in the community again. Our electronic patient records go back almost 20 years, and LUCI helps me spot patterns in their service and medication use.
For example, LUCI shows me whether patients had long periods when they were well and needed little or no mental health service input. This insight can be a great starting point for a conversation with the patient and their family about what worked at the time. An important task for doctors, in particular those in training, is going through patient records and picking out what's most relevant. LUCI makes this process much easier and quicker.
Benjamin’s story
Benjamin Quinn, Advanced Practitioner
"LUCI makes zoning meetings more efficient and I’m really happy with how it’s been developed."
I use LUCI almost every morning for zoning meetings. It helps our Community Mental Health Team by organising patients into categories like "Red zone" or “inpatient”, making information easy to access. It also speeds up our process by showing the latest community observation notes, so we can easily track the progress of a patient’s treatment plans.
Now we have LUCI, meetings run more smoothly with fewer people searching the patient record at the same time. I was involved in the user-centred design process, and the LUCI team did a great job incorporating my feedback. I’m really pleased with how it turned out and I think it’s a great addition to the current system.
Yogini’s story
Yogini Sawjani, Clinical Psychologist
"The LUCI team were really helpful in guiding me through the dashboards, and I’d definitely use it again in the future."
I currently work in community mental health teams in Croydon North, South and Central, supporting service users living with psychosis.
I use LUCI to identify inequalities in access to and engagement with psychological therapies by age, gender and ethnicity.
For a recent audit, I was able to gather all the necessary data from LUCI in about an hour – something that would have taken much longer in ePJS.
