Developing digital therapies and digital health apps: a guide

The aim of the NIHR BRC Digital Therapies theme is to help bridge shortfalls and close gaps in NHS service provisions with digital solutions. Within our team we have developed a number of digital therapies and digital health apps to help support people with a range of mental and physical health conditions and symptoms.  These include anxiety, depression, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, paranoia and experience of hearing distressing voices.

From this work we have gained experience and learning which we would like to share with others who are planning to develop a digital therapy or digital health app.

In these pages we discuss how to decide if your idea for digital health requires regulation or if it can be considered a digital health app or wellness app. The pages also cover navigating the UK regulatory system, developing digital health apps, involving patients and the pubic throughout the work and existing resources and infrastructure.
